Question:
I'm looking to buy a pre-owned vehicle, but I'm not sure what is the better route to go, the dealership or a private seller. What are the advantages/disadvantages to each? I just want a reliable car for a reasonable price from the lesser of two evils.
I'm also curious as to what's good as far as the number of miles on a car according to price. I have an 85 Ford Tempo with approximately 87,000 miles on it. Taking into consideration my current car, it seems like newer cars have higher miles for ridiculous prices.
where do i post a moving truck for sale?
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

Dealer...you will pay more fees (doc fees and used car inspection), but you are also guaranteed to have a clear title and you have a company to go to if you have any problems within the first couple days (many dealerships have implied used car warranties ex. 500 miles/15-days)

Private...you will pay less, but you have to make sure that you take the car and have it inspected. I recommend that prior to any exchange of money that you arrange to have the vehicle inspected by your mechanic and have the purchase be contingent that the car comes out of inspection all clear.

If you go with a dealership, you'll get a nice polished up car with clear title (ie not stolen or rebirthed or owing money) - however, it will be more expensive. Even if you buy if the dealer and the car is a lemon, that is your responsibility and it's always difficult to get money back when the sale is completed.
Private sales tend to be cheaper, but best to get a qualified mechanic to check the car out and make sure it hasn't been in an accident, oil leaks or other engine problems.

It shouldn't matter how many miles a car's done - as long as it has been regularly serviced and maintained.
