Is 1000miles in one week too much?

Question:
I know someone who bought a second hand car that was over 12yrs old and drove about 1000miles in less than 1week.The car broke down and he wants his money back. Was he sold a dodgy car?

Answers:

i have a problem: i want to buy a new car, which one should i buy the new Volkswagen passat or honda accord?

No, i would say that all cars can go wrong even new ones, although unlikely it does happen. Did your friend check at how many miles the cambelt was fitted? When was it last serviced and was it regularily? Did he get a mechanic to check it over? The buyer should have done all of these things. The car may have had probs that the seller didnt even know about, you dont normally find people knowingly selling dodgy cars..............I would say after hammering the car and doing so many miles he will not be able to get his money back!!

He should have had the car inspected by a mechanic before purchasing it. Most used cars are sold as-is. Sucks to be your friend.

but i'm purchasing as a pawned car i won't pay no more than $500 4 tha car so what?

not really..... he should have got it checked out...but didn't. That's his bad.

What chance do i of getting my money?

1000 div by 7= 143 apx per day....

Cant decide what car to get.?

that's a bit excessive but think about it like this...If someone works in a city, and lives an hour away in a more affordable location...they may commute 70 miles each way....or about 1000 in 7 days.....

Would u get a 3 series with 100k miles?

that's more than any sane person would do normally....I would say he should get some money back...It would have broken down if it took 3 weeks....

help please?

You are very vague in your question as to what the mileage was on the car etc etc.

Where can find a good used car for $2000 or lower in chicago?

I would say for a 12 year old car 1000 mile a week is crazy. you are asking an old car to perform like a new one. No point. It wont. This is why your friend should have bought a much newer car if he new his mileage was going to be high.

Used cars are sold 'as is' and if purchased at a dealer (many states allow for) an implied warranty which is usually 15 days/ 500 miles which ever comes first. If he purchased from a private party once he paid for the vehicle and drove away it is his.

Could someone plz tell me if I am getting a good deal for a 2002 Nissan Sentra sedan for $7,000?

Your friend should have had the car checked out before he bought it. Don't forget, its 12 years old and likely to break down in some circumstances - it won't be perfect!

Which is a better buy - Pajero or the Nissan x-trail (base model without sunroof etc )?

Sorry, he might have bought a dodgy car but he bouth it used. Unless he got a warrenty I would say he is out of luck. Like the other answerers I would say if you get a used car, get it checked out by a mechanic you trust BEFORE you buy it.

What is the best type of car for a new driver?

1000 miles on a 12 yr old car is expecting a bit too much from it

first car?

No. Anything can go wrong even in brand new cars. The car is 12 years old (2006-12 = 1994). When the car is more than 5 years old (or 100,000 miles), problems shows up at that time. The owner of any used car, knows, it is going to be expensive to maintain a used car. Does he know that it is going to be expensive to maintain when the car is old? I am a car enthusiast and a Do-It-Yourself mechanic, and I know how expensive it is, really expensive to maintain the car's peak performance.

I earn about 1000 a month. I am planning to buy a car that cost about 40,000 with 0% interest. It is possible?

Was he sold a dodgy car? I don't know what is the name of car, so I cannot assume. I know if you bought a used car, you cannot return it. I know if you bought a problematic car, then it has problems. If you bought an unreliable car, it is unreliable.
