Car dealerships can always go down on price. Don't let them foul you. I'm in America.

Car financing denied by the lienholder?

You can always get a vehicle price lowered. Just do your homework and compare prices with different dealers. Carmax should be stop # 1 and then other Toyota dealers.

Does this sound like a scam?

NOT TRUE...salesmen are there to get the max amount they can out of you for the car. When I bought my Toyota RAV4 I negotiated the hell out of that car and ended up getting it for about $5K less than the asking price AND I got an extremely low interest rate on the loan. What I did is I got prequalified for an auto loan through my bank. I told the salesman that I had the blank check from the bank to buy the car and if he couldn't give me the car for what I wanted to pay, then some other dealer would be more than happy to accept my offer and take my money if he wasn't. After it was all said and done, I got the car at a great discount and Toyota financed me at a much lower interest rate than my bank had offered! Go into it with some negotiating tactics. I did ALOT of research online before I even stepped foot onto a lot. So I went in extremely prepared, knowing exactly what car I wanted, knowing exactly what to say, and knowing what sales tactics the salesman would probably use. I also did a lot of research on the car itself (like "under the hood" facts) and that showed the salesman that I wasn't just some dummy waiting to give my money away to him. They can be very persistent. Take your time, keep your cool, and don't rush into anything. I even let them know that I was in no rush to buy and that if it took me a year to find what I was looking for then so be it. You basically have to show them that as the consumer, you do have the upper hand. Once they realize that you are a knowledgeable buyer and negotiator, then your chances of getting the price you want increases. Do a search on car negotiating tips and see what you come up with! Hope this helps.

Woud you buy an extended warranty on a new vehicle?

There isn't a dealer alive that won't discount the asking price. The whole idea of buying from a dealer, is the haggling back and forth, to reach a deal that works for both parties. I would take someone car shopping with you, someone who is knowledgeable about cars and financing of those cars. Good luck.
