I will be buying a new car in the future, no questions asked. What is a good car to get for someone who doesn't need to tow or haul anything that gets good gas mileage? I will be driving around town and then out of town to my parent's house every once in a while. No, I can't afford one right now but I want to start looking for when I can.

I just bought a toyota yaris sedan. I drove it from arkansas to florida, and it got around 40 miles per gallon. its a small car, and costs around $15,000. It has a huge trunk and plenty of room on the inside (i drove my boyfriend and 3 of his male friends around one weekend, and no complaints about space!) toyota has a very good reputation and their vehicles are very reliable, and the resale value is also pretty good should you ever want to trade it in or sell it.VW makes a couple good daily drivers. Jetta, Rabbit, and the Beetle.
We own a 06 Beetle and a 07 Jetta. Both are nice cars and get pretty good milage. we see 23/34 in the beetle and 23/32 in the jetta. They both have the same 2.5L engine, but the beetle is a 6spd auto and the jetta is a 5spd manual.
I bought my first car and i got a honda accord 02. I paid about 16,707 after all taxes an such. I get insane gas mileage. I went 1,200 miles on a trip and only used 100 dollars in gas or about 3 tanks.

If you are looking at an SUV I can professionally advise you to purchase a Hyundai Santa Fe. Good warranty, safe, good quality control, inexpensive and capable. I sold one to my sister so I beleive they are a great product.
If you are looking car, I advise a Volkswagen Jetta or Hyundai Sonata, with the edge to the Jetta, safest car ever built and GREAT gas mileage, especially if you go diesel over 50 miles per gallon.

I will guess most will say go Honda or Toyota. Those people dont know a damn thing. They have good reputation, but they are not what they used to be in the late 80's early 90's. In fact Hyundai is 10% higher in customer satisfaction, and VW is almost as high with better warranty and saftey ratings, plus a nicer car that is more fun to drive. Toyota has the #1 most TSI's (reported known problems" per 100 cars in the industry.

Get a Consumer Reports Buyers Guide around the time you are looking to get a car. I would not recommend a Chrysler/Ford/GM until they have dedicated more effort to the small car and not the huge SUV's no one wants anymore. They are still behind the curve and reliability and resale are not strong suits. And avoid VW's too. They are nice cars, but not reliable and are very expensive to fix.
