I'm soon going to college, and I do not know how to convince my parents to get me a car. My parents do not take the casual "your not responsible enough to get a car" but rather take the stand that "I don't need a car because I won't be traveling and that everything is located near the dorm." I understand their mentallity, however i feel that it is essential for a car, because everything isn't located on campus. Sure there might be a starbucks there, but Social places such as a nice elegant restaurant, or a rock climbing gym are far from there. I've run this by them multiple times and it seems they still find a car a waste of money. How would I convince them otherwise? Are there any specific persuasive techniques you would reccomend?

show them that you need a car, a harder and less pleasureable way is go off to college without a car, and then literally suffer becasue you are not able to do alot of things because of the lack of a car, and complain once in a while about the inconvience without a car.or tell them that college is a great time in life to explore and see the world, and ask them if they really want to come pick you up and drive you everywhere you need to go. and if you ask for a car, don't bother with style or model, just tell, if you really need if for transportation, tell them you will take any car that drives and won't break down to often. cause thats all you really need.right? a car to take you places.

You are an adult now. Stop relying on your parents for everything. Buy a car yourself and I think you will learn a lot and become much more responsible. If its really necessary I'm sure you can find a way to buy one on your own.My best advice to you, is to get a job and buy one yourself. Shows responsibility, they also can't ever use a car as a bargaining chip or hang it over your head, and in the end you will feel better about yourself.
