the best SUV's are ford bronco, chevy blazer, gmc jimmy, chevy suburban... they are the original SUV makers... when they started making SUV's the japanese market didnt even know what one was... it wasnt until everyone had to have an SUV that other companies started to make them...for profit... not for the desire to make a good SUVthe explorer is the best for the money and low repair cost we have one in the company has over 109 k miles nothing major has been replaced just regular maintnance items

The best SUV is NO SUV... they are gas-guzzling monsters with no real purpose other than to give people a false sense of importance and security (which is funny because most SUVs are MORE unsafe under any conditions than MOST cars, do the research it's TRUE).There are plenty of cars out there with MUCH better gas mileage and just as mush space...

If you ARE bound and determined to get one, PLEASE do some research into gas consumption and emissions control. Honda, Hyundai, Toyota and Saturn all put out small SUVs that are better with gas mileage if you must go that route.

I would also consider a Mazda5. Not an SUV, but good MPG and nearly as much room inside, and a much friendlier price. Skip the Domestic SUV's (any GM, Ford, Jeep, Mazda (sorry) , they give away a lot in reliability, refinement and build quality. Hyundai has improved as of late and a SantaFe would offer a lot for the money.
