2 years ago I sold my car to a junkyard, i had the title notorized gave to them. Well last week the police contact me saying that my car was in a accident and and fled the scene try to explain i sold car, they dont want to hear and are going to charge me. even had notory call them, they dont care what can i do to prove i got rid of car, and i am still responsible?

#4) Their obligation to you may also be covered under state laws governing Salvage yards and motor vehicles... These can and may still apply even if the Salvage yard went out of business... the Former owners of it may be liable to you and the State's dept that governs transportaion issuse in your state...

thats a tough one.by now your plate for the car is expired so they drove on expired plates or put one on from different car.Cops got vin number from car and ran that for ownership.If thats the case you still own the car and i would go to the junk yard and confront them.They probably sold your car to someone and just handed them the title and trusted them to get it registered in their name.When you sell a car you need to go to dmv with the new owner and have it registered in their name.That gets you off the hook in case of things like this.I sold one to a family friend and years later i got parking tickets for the car in the mail.But I has a recipt proving i sold it with her signature on it.Oops she dont like me no more cuz i turned her in.But if you dont have any proof that you sold it to a junkyard you may be screwed.You can apply for a lost title or go to dmv and see if its still in your name.You may be able to get the car back and sell it right this time.Get a paper with the new owner going stating you sold the car to________ for$______ as is on(date of sale) you sign and they sign and both get a copy this will protect you.Oh and I worked at a junk yard and some are crooks.The one i worked at had stolen cars in it and they just cut them up for the scrap.I saw new cars with nothing wrong get demolished.I quit them and they got caught.So cover you butt and sell it nice and legal
