If you are somewhere with cheap gas and low insurance, get an old stationwagon. Put the rear seats down and put a mattress, with quilt or sheets in there. Lots of room to move stuff and if you are at a party drinking, you got a place to sleep.
If Gas is exspensive then I would recommend a SEAT or VW, just not a Golf. Golfs are known for tuning and insurance would can be quite costly.
