Help me pick a car for my teen daughter.?

gonna get her a new car for her birthday. Narrowed it down to VW Jetta, Kia Spectra, or something similar. Needs to have automatic tranny, side airbags, and ABS brakes at a minimum. Trying to keep the cost down and still give her a safe car with enough creature comforts, not a stripped down shell of a car. What would you recommend, and why?

i own a repair shop,and id go with a KIA spectra because of the safety features it has,and also on the price of it,but the main reason i suggest this car is i do a lot of work for a lot of people and the ones that own the KIA,s,aren't having to spend a lot of money on them and the warranty they have is unbeatable also,and the service they give for the price is just un real,but dollar for dollar you get a lot more bang for the buck with a good KIA than you will other makes and models,there's only one other i would even suggest to you,and that's a Nissan sentra ,they have all the features and the price is good on them also,i own of of those ,i bought it used but there as good as any other car on the road,so its just another choice ,if you decide to look at something else,and they too are also cheap to operate,and give excellent service,good luck with it ,i hope this helps.

Well, if you must go new, The new Civic and the Mazda 3 are great choices. The corolla, while boring, can be had relatively cheap as it is in its last year before a total redesign.

I personally would recommed a VW jetta diesel because of the fact that the engines will last pretty much forever, gas mileage is 42mpg city (on a bad day) has enough power to do anything your daughter needs to do but isnt overpowered, and vw service is reasonable compared to other german cars

Kia is a good choice, the warranty is probably the best out there and they are less expensive than the vw if you are going with a new car, used cars depending on where you live, i would look in to a vehicle that had awd, and the other things you mentioned

I was fortunate to get a new LE Toyota Camry in High School from my parents. It was a great car with great gas mileage.. Toyota Corolla's and Camry's are excellent cars with excellent repair records and great safety features. Honda's are great too.. Check out Consumer Report's Car Magazine as well.

Don't go for the VW Jetta. I recently had one only for a year before I had to terminate the lease. The car overheated and many recalls and was towed 3 times in 1 year! It was brand new! I would recommend the Honda Civic too. Many parents buy them for their kids because from what I heard they are quite reliable. I personally enjoy an Infiniti, they are luxurious and very reliable. Why? Honda quality, low-cost of ownership, safe. With cars, you pay for what you get so I would really avoid the Korean makes. VW Jettas are good except for electrical concerns. VW's are expensive in general and most experience some form of electrical short circuit.
