Whats the best 4x4 for winter conditions?

im 17 getting ready to go off to college up in the adrondacks in northern new york, they get a lot off snow and ice.. now i have a 95' jeep cherokee sport, and if you can believe it, that sucker although powerful gets stuck in the snow a lot more than a jeep should. now i want to know what kind of car or suv or truck i should get for winter weather and a little off roading. thanks a lot for any suggestions : )

Its not the car.Its ur tires.Either they have 2 much tred or not enough.Getten new treds would b cheaper then a new car.Now a jeep is good 4 off roaden but not snow or ice.There ok but i would so wit a Dodge ram 1500 hemi.Now it dont have 2 b a hemi it could b just a 1500,Or an even better truck/suv would b a Dodge Durango.Not 1 of the new ones but an older model.*I know a lot bout cars and shi*t 4 my age.16 by the way*but ya a Durango would b ur best bet.

we got new tires on our jeep, and it still stinks in the snow. it's slightly better, but, not much. we are told it's because our jeep is rear wheel drive and that if you want a better vehicle for snow to make sure you have four wheel drive....at the very least front wheel drive. we live in the snow belt, and my hubby's dodge stratus (front wheel drive) is not bad in the snow.
good luck finding a car....i keep hoping my hubby will let me trade my jeep for the same reason you are looking!

Get dedicated "snow tires" not all season/off road tires during winter months. The rubber compound is designed for traction in snow/ice. When it thaws out, switch back the the Wrangler MT-R's or Mud Terrain TA's. Key word SNOW TIRES. Don't let anyone tell you all seasons are just as good. They are a compromise between dedicated winter and dedicated summer tires. Not very good in either condition. Sure they will say rated for M+S, but you'll continue to get stuck. Do a search on snow tires.
