Question:
I am looking at buying a 1989 Mazda MPV Van. I need a 2nd car that will transport at leat 6 ppl so I can prevent overmileage on my leased vehicle. Here are the good things about this vehicle; It is 4WD, has brand new snow tires on it, has a 6 month old transmission on it and new brakes too. It is power windows and locks, cruise control, AC with rear air. The interior is in fairly good shape, only the driver side is slightly torn. It will definately need a good cleaning. It is great in the snow! Here is the bad: It is missing the front grille and the back and partial side trim panel. The power mirrors don't work, it needs a new windshield and new wipers, it seems to burn oil slightly (because it smells alittle bit and smokes a bit) , the shocks are squeaky. It seems to have been in an accident (may only have been minor) because the radiator is bent slightly where the grille is missing. Would like info from mechanics and ppl who know about cars, please. Thanks!

A question for CA residents interested in buying a Hybrid...?
Your engine would cost you approx. $2000 to $3000 to replace. Why the expense? Because you're going to need new belts, radiator hoses (radiator) because its damaged. The shocks are about $200 installed. So no matter how you look at this van, maybe the owner should pay YOU to take the pos (pile of s*!t) off their hands. If not, then don't walk away from this vehicle - RUN as fast as you can from this vehicle! Sorry, I don't mean to sound harsh, but this vehicle is nothing but trouble (and money). If you keep looking, I think you can find a better vehicle for your money with less problems. Best of luck to you.Can anyone help me decide if I should buy a Scion xB?
i would keep looking sounds like trouble to me i wouldnt give over 500 if i was desperateThat van has had serious issues with the tranny/transfer case on 4 wheel drives, that unit that's been replaced is probably not the first. It's old and looks like it's had a hard life. Walk away.
What are the best previously owned vehicles to purchase?
I would be very cautious!! A new radiator could cost up to 500.00 in some cars. The missing grill and a new radiator may mean the frame could possibly be bent, binding the transmission causing it to blow seals( I had a car that did just that after I was hit in the rear)! With the engine smoking and smelling could mean it may need to be rebuilt! NOT GOOD!!! With the money you could POSSIBLY wind up spending on the van, you would be better off to pay the overage on the leased car. Most of the time if you go back with another leased car when the lease is up, they will give you a rebate or owner loyalty which will balance out the cost overrun! JUST BE VERY CAUTIOUS WITH THAT it sounds to me like someone is just trying to make a buck off of a piece of junk!Any advice on getting a new/used car?
When I buy used cars with problems like you mention,I start with the value if was in un-broken condition. Go to
kbb.com and look it up. KBB will ask you condition, click
"poor" or "rough" I forget the exact wording. Then I subtract
1.5 to 2 times the cost of known needed repairs.
Kbb shows that car with normal miles at $2350 in my area.
It sounds like your MPV is not nice at all.
Anything that runs Ok is probably worth $5-600 maybe a bit
more for 4wd.
Can you buy a car and return it in 24 hours and get my old car and money down?
You have to look at what insurance, taxes, maintenance on an
almost 20 year old crumbling heap of car is going to be, and balance that against your lease mileage fee.
I suggest taking good care of you leased car, buy it instead of turning it in at the end of the lease.
What car to get for family and labrador!?
I'd say get it but pay no more than $500.More Questions & Answers ...
