Trying to buy a dependable car.?

lookin for a dependable car, preferably a v6, i am happy with a stick or auto, but it also needs to get above 20mpg both city and highway, anything from like 84-'00 and if possible around 4k, hopefully a sedan or coupe, does anyone have any suggestions or am i screwed, plz help me out..
