Is there away to get paperwork for a car?

a few years ago i bought this car from a lady and it came with no paperwork. so now im try to get tags for it but i do not have paperwork say'n that the car be longs to me. is there a way i can go by gettn paperwork for it... oh ya i do not know the lady i got the car from

Bought a second hand car!!?

Check with your local DOT . They will give you the proper paper work which you will have to fill out and so will the previous owner. Hopefully the vehicle has no liens .You can also try the Internet search engine and putting your state abbreviation eg.., my state is TX so I put in TX Dot .From there you can access the site under vehicle registration forms and also download the forms.
