Mercedes are built like bank vaults and feel like it too. Ewww. In recent years they have been one of the most unreliable brands of cars you can buy. They are also extremely overpriced. A millionaire friend of mine had an $85,000 Mercedes, and later told me, "Gawd! what junk, I thought I was buying quality." He had the car for one year before he went back and yelled at the dealer. He traded it in for a Lexus and couldn't be happier. He won't own anything else but a Lexus now.

BMW's also come with an exclusive lifetime maintenance plans, so the claims of worrying about them being unreliable may be moot. Hands down. BMW wins this "fight" without even thinking about it.

Mercedes historically is the most relaible and hold their value the same as a BMW. I had an Audi and although I liked it more than the other 2, it was unreliable and lost value more quickly. It really depends on what you want it for. Are you keeping it for a long time or trading it in after 3 years? Go to MSN Autos and read reviews from people who actually own the cars you are looking at. Then go to www.consumerreports.com and see how it rated in reliability.My lease is up on my truck..Should I buy it out or trade it in for a new upgraded model ?
