Question:
I am a single mom, with no mechanic nor the skills of one. I am the original owner of a 1998 Dodge Durango with 194,000.00 mlles. I have followed the maitance schedule per the owners manual, I have not had any engine trouble, no accidents, no problems (yet). I think Kelly Blue Book is around $6000.00?? I don't have the funds to soak into the Durango if need be nor do I have the money to put down on a new car, and payments are out of the question. My delima is - I don't know if it would be better to trade it in for a vehicle of egual value, or to keep it, anticipating problems. 4x4 is not a must. Any suggestions?

Buying Theft Salvaged vehicle.?
You've done great to keep it going; but I can't see you making it too much further without needing some serious transmission work. I also really got to wonder how strong that engine is at this point. As you know, you're not going to get a lot for $6,000; but I'd have to say - $6,000 worth of old Camry or Accord is a whole lot safer bet than $6000 worth of old Durango. In fact, I've seen both those cars with half of your mileage going for less than $6K.
If you can't afford a $1,500 hit for major engine or transmission work - you better look for trying some type of lateral move.
Should i buy a used car or lease a new one?
Keep it! the Durango is a great car and if you really followed the maintenance schedule, your car will be in way better shape than any car you would switch it for, save for a new car. What car can i buy for £4500 nearly new?
