Question:
So here's the deal, Im looking for a car that is no more than about $8,000.
Who takes vehicles for donation?
Most importantly it should be very reliable (I drive about 40 miles a day), would be nice to have some luxury options (i.e. Leather, sun roof, power everything.) (while we are on the subject, what’s the difference between sun/moon roof?), and it should have decent gas mileage ( I drive a ’91 firebird right now so any newer car would get better mileage than that hog).
Which one is better in speed/reliability/handling and why? Nissan 300zx or Toyota Supra?
I was looking at the Volvo S80, that’s a sharp looking car. Anyone hear anything about them?
I was also looking at the VW Passat, another nice looking car. How are VW’s?
I remember thinking the Matrix is a nice looking car. I forgot who the make of it is. mazda?
I need advise on what to look for when purchasing a vehicle. Can you help me?
Any input would be much appreciated, Thank You.
Answers:
Stay away from the VW and the Volvo like they were the plague. Reliability is really, really bad. Both score much worse than average. Older Volvo's with the wheezy 4 cylinders ran forever, but once Ford took over, it was all down hill. A 2 yr old VW is as reliable as an 8yr old Toyota. VW's are also very expensive to fix, and Volvo's are not much better.
A 2000/2001 Honda Accord EX (4 or 6 cylinder) would be your best bet. The smaller engine will probably get you near 30 or so on the highway. A similar Camry would also be a good choice, but they are kinda boring. Both are very reliable and hold their values well. The Accord is a little sportier and fun to drive, whereas the Camry may be a more serene highway cruiser. In your price range, a Camry would be around a 2000 or so, and have the 2.2 4 cylinder. A very reliable motor, but a little low on power for some. I would do a nice Accord and drive it til it blows up.
And BTW, the Matrix is made by Toyota and built on a modified Corolla chassis. It will fall short of any luxury aspirations you have, as it is noisy and I do not even think it offers leather. You could be refering to the Mazda Millenia if you are certain it is a Mazda. That car is basically a fancy Mazda 6. Not a bad car, but avoid the S version as it employs a supercharger that needs special maintenance and is very expensive to fix if the previous owner did not perform it.
The Passat is definitely not the epitome of reliability. The Matrix would be a good bet (made by Toyota, very reliable). You could also check out the Pontiac Vibe, which is the same exact car as the Matrix, just rebadged as a Pontiac. They tend to have lower resale because of the poor brand image Pontiac has.
you might want to look in to a good used Lexus car, they can be found for around that amount, and have all of what your looking for in a car, there's problems with any car your going to buy,all you can do is use good judgment on buying one ,and try to pick one that doesn't have to may mechanical problems with it,good luck i hope this helps.
What is the best value car to get?
The Matrix is made by Toyota.1997 Pontiac Grand Am. Needs Motor. How Much Is It Worth?
Avoid the VW like the plague
Consumer rights when lease purchasing car?
Honda Accord EX has leather, full power, moon roof, and all that stuff, same as Toyota Camry
I could perhaps suggest a honda accord with with higher miles,a toyota camry, these cars offer a combination of reliability luxury and fuel economy and exceptional performance.hope this helps good luck
