HA! You must have bought a rebuilt one or something, cuz I have a 1991 Camry Station Wagon and its got 232,000 miles on it. Everything is original, the tranny, the engine, and it runs like a BEAST! As long as you keep up with your routine maint. it should last you a LOOOOOOOOONG time. So long that if I were to put any more "O"'s in that sentence, I wouldn't be able to type anything else! I know people that have over 450,000 miles on it and STILL running strong.

First off, I can't give an accurate diagnosis without further info and driving the car, but if the car is new, less than 3,000 miles, or if it has less than 7,000 and is driven by several different people I would say it is due to Toyota's "learning transmission system." For smoothness and efficiency, Toyota has a transmission that learns a driver's habits and driving style and adjusts itself accordingly. And if it is an 05 or an 06 that seems jerky going from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd it is typically a simple computer problem and can be fixed in 5 minutes with an update. Toyota had a bulletin out on it for the Lexus ES anyways If it has more than 30k on it, I'd check and change the ATF.
