I need something for a tall person that will be within reasonable price for a 21 year old college kid. Hoping it won't be more than 15,000 and that we can possibly negotiate it down with a large downpayment. We are looking at Hondas and Toyotas, any suggestions on dealing with salesmen?

My friend is 7'2" and fits inside my old Swift (think Geo Metro) with no problems, a little cramped in the leg room department if he rides in the back. Although after College I gave it back to my dad and I got me a new Toyota Truck.

Make all your comparisons on the internet. If you make all your negotiations there and just pick up the car at the dealership, you can avoid pressure and compare actual cars pretty well. First of all, down payment has nothing to do with the price of the car. Secondly, a great car for a college kid is a Ford Focus, which for 15K, you could get a 2006 or 2007, with a 100,000 mile warranty so you wouldn't have to worry about any car related expenses. And 3rd, pay no attention to the loser willow in the 1st post, he obviously lives in in parents basement and has no life!Id recomend looking at a few fords. I have had many Fords and they all seem to do really well. Wouldn't hurt to give one a try. You can get a newer Tarus pretty cheap. Tarus is one of the highest rated cars ever for dependability and reliabilty. Focus and Escape are also great cars to try out.

when he says, "how about $..., what can you do?",
then you make the lower offer, and tell him that's the best you can do.
