I checked the carfax for my car a couple of years ago and it didn't list any of the accidents that is has on it. I think carfax only shows listings that were reported by insurance agencies. What I would do is pay a mechanic to take a look at the car and make sure that everything is in working order. It will cost you to pay for the mechanic, but it will be worth it if you decide to get the car.
