It depends. If you are looking to the future Chevrolet is the because the still make parts for all of their vehicles. Most all other manufactures stop making parts after 5-7 years, making it difficult to maintain.Mercedes - although expensive, you get what you pay for and the after care is second to none.

Mazda are good!
There is no best make. Only good cars. All cars differ, even from the same maker. Often they're made in different factories in different countries. The designers are often different between models and whilst you may suspect some companies use higher quality parts, the truth is the majority of parts are made by exactly the same major companies. You'll find Bosch parts for example in everything from Skodas and Citroens to Mercedes and BMWs.
It's best to judge cars individually, not by brand. Check sites like www.reliabilityindex.co.uk and the whatcar reliability surveys and take cars for test drives.

Also be aware that parts wear on all cars, it's not just the unexpected break downs you have to look into, it's the servicing costs as well. Sure a Toyota may be more reliable than a Ford, but the parts and servicing will cost considerably more.
