You are liable for paying the sales tax on a vehicle. If the dealer quoted you the wrong amount and you have signed documentation, I would go to the dealer and try to work out a comprimise to split the difference or something. You can always threaten legal action. Hopefully, they will admit to it being an honest mistake and help fix the problem. If they refuse, the tax office is going to go after you for the balance. Don't back off of the dealer, and they will eventually pony up some cash.
