Visit the Department of Motor vehicles and have it transferred to your name.

Car for 16 yo?

Go to any used car lot or court house and ask for transfer of title for motor vehicle.

The Best Family Car?!?

When I did it we went to the county clerks office. There was also a form to fill out for transfer from a parent to a child, that stopped us from having to pay sales taxes on it.

Whats the best type of car to sup up?

Since then they have repealed the sales tax on used cars in the state of KY provided they have already been registered in KY and tax was paid when they were new. Good luck

Does anyone have copies of the Auto Trader - covering Surrey, UK, for May, June, July 2004?

In California this is how we do it.
Have your dad sign Vehicle release form.
And also if you dad has the pinkslip, have him
sign the pinkslip in the appropriate places.
Take that to the DMV and fill out the signed Vehicle release form and turn it in. I think there is a little fee required.
And boom. the DMV should do the rest. = )

Stop sending me emails for cash loans, credit cards and selling me stop?

Have him sign over the title to you. Then take it to the DMV and you'll have your own title within a month. Make sure "gift" is checked so you don't have to pay any taxes.

What is the maximum number of cars that can be sold/traded privately in a year within various states laws?

Each state is different. But I can tell you the basics. Of course your dad has to sign the back (some states the front) of the title and put your name as buyer. Most states will let your father "give" you the car to avoid sales tax. But you have to tell them that it is a gift. Some states require that the title be notarized, some don't. Some states require some kind of bill of sale or statement from the seller with the make, model and VIN, mileage and price paid for the vehicle. Again some states require a notary, some don't. Some states have local DMV offices, others it is their town hall, and others it is a special notary. There are also different forms in different states. Where ever you need to go to transfer the title should have the forms. Some forms are available to print on line, but you have to go to your states DMV website to get them.
I am sure they have a telephone that you can contact them to find out what forms are needed. Depending on the state, you could get the title and the plates immediately when you transfer the title, other states mail it to you. Some states the plates go with the car, other states you have to get new plates in your name. I don't mean to sound confusing, but since each state is different it is confusing!
