Best thing to do for a first car is buy a cheap, reliable fuel efficient car, and pay cash for it, no financing. Get from a independant person, not a dealer, while not every dealer is shady they know jack squat about the car they're selling.

Payments on a decent car will be at least $250 a month, or nobody will be financing them. There's no money there to be made financing that little amount, and nobody will do it for you.
