What factors should I take into consideration before trading in by older vehicle?

It is almost always better to buy used than new.When you buy new you take a "hit" financially. The vehicle immediately loses thousands of dollars in value when you drive it off the lot.
Buying used allows the previous owner to take that hit.

I would try to buy from a one-owner private party unless you need to finance the car. If you buy via private party get a car-fax report and take the vehicle for an inspection to someone like AAA or your own mechanic. Most 1 to 3 year old vehicles still have a factory warranty if under the required miles.

Certified is a sales gimmick to overcharge for used cars. Those 5yr/75k miles they promise is from the day it was first sold. so it's actually much shorter.

Much better to buy a non-certified off Autotrader and paying a mechanic to check it over. You'll save thousands that way.
