needed for kids and dogs. I'm upside-down in my '02 explorer w/ 52K miles and looking for something w/ cheaper payments. this Rover is about $10K and in pristine condition, owned by a military pilot. any one with any experience with these, thoughts, or advice??

Unless you're taking it over mountainous terrain, the Range Rover is an abomination of gas mileage and reliability. They rank last or next to last in reliability ratings. This is preposterous for the price they demand. Their selling point is the name and suburban competition for the largest, most gas-hungry off-road (yet not off-road) SUV. There's more than enough reason for that Rover to be that cheap. I'm sure the guy's raving about how well it's taken care of. Well, that doesn't mean much if you're not a mechanic and 1st year reliability sucks anyway.

You can find a RAV 4 from Toyota for small SUV's, Toyota Highlander for mid-sized (or a 4 runner) and a GMC Yukon for a larger SUV all for around the year and price you want on www.autotrader.com

You are taking a big risk if you buy a Land Rover. Rich people can buy them because they can afford repairs. I know a family that has a 125,000 dollar Mercedes Benz S-series that's in the shop regularly, so high dollar doesn't not necessarily mean high quality.
