What car is better in performance and price, a volkswagon jetta or toyota corolla?
i like american cars for being very comfy, i hate japanese cars.. they are all plastic and not comfortable at all unless u talking about lexus or infinity or acura.
german cars forget about them.. no spare parts..

so the only comfy and large saloon cars (american) i would think of are either dodge (interpid), ford (taurus) maybe, or chevy lumina..

personally i liked the dodge interpid .. it looks good from the outside and inside.. and it is not an oil monster like many other cars (jeep grandcherokee forexample) which i love btw..

Is there really an American car ? Most of the parts are made in Mexico then assembled in America, Honda does the same thing, But is assembled in Kentucky. American Companies have lower Quality Assurance they let more defects get by. All the cars you mentioned might give you comfort at first...but all the cars you mentioned will cost you a bundle in repairs. that's not very comforting. If I was you I would take another look at Japanese cars. Perhaps Toyota Camry or Honda Civicall 3 have their good an bad,,,,, but think on what you useing it for,,, ford an dodge, got the best motor as for as pulling,, but bad trann,,, cheve , weak mother but got a goo trann, but realy,, get one you like the best, what one person like ,other dont,,,
I would find an Intrepid that has been taken care of. They do seem to hold up better than the other two. I personally like the trucks from Dodge. The Dakota and Durango are nice if you want something not as big as a full size truck, but yet able to haul stuff and be comfortable and you can get them for around the price you are willing to spend. I Iive in El Paso and see pickups for around that price often.
In texas, for $5000 I wouldn't worry about which one to buy, I'd focus on which could I find and get the best buy on. I like your choices, though the Lumina is dated, I would look for its newer replacement, the Malibu. On the Intrepid, watch for dirty trans fluid. Try to find one w/clean fluid and make sure you always get it changed on time. Same on the Taurus. On the Malibu, check to make sure the head gasket is not seeping oil bad on the drivers side and plan to replace front brake pads every 30k miles. Not bad if you do yourself and buy lifetime pads at parts store. Takes about 30 mins to change.

The last generation Taurus and/or Mercury Sable...same thing (just discontinued months ago) went heavily into rental fleets, because of that, it mad ethe vehicle depreciate quite a bit. You could pick up a 3 year old Taurus for possibly the amount you mentioned. Whenever a manufacture dumps a vehicle heavily into fleets, you can pick them off afterwards real cheap.
Plus, even if the Taurus is comfy, the handling was composed as well. Doesn't feel floaty like a Camry or Buick for example. The trunk is also the largest in it's class, and has some of the best crash ratings in it's class, and was a leader of it for many years.
Two engines available, both 3.0L. You have the Vulcan, and the Duratec V6's. The Vulcan was reliable, but for it's size didn't make much power. The Duratec is also very reliable, and might be better suited to your needs. Fuel efficiency between both are ironically identical.

These are for vehicles that have been in service for at least 3 years, you can do a search for previous years and it's usually Fords and Buicks that lead that segment.
