I just bought a new Nissan Versa. I also traded in a 2002 Chevy Impala. Rather than apply the $6500 for the trade in to the downpayment on the new car, I told them I was financing the full price of the new car and that they should cut a check to me for $6500 for the Impala. They agreed. Only thing is they told me I wont get the check for the trade for about 25 days but it should get mailed to me with the title work so i can get my plates for the new car. Is this normal? I am thinking I should have got the money as soon as I give them the car. Also, I handed them a copy of the title for the Impala but they never asked me to sign it? Please advise.

go back to dealer and tell them they have two chocies and 5 minutes to make decicion...either write you a check..or give back title and impala...or go get the police...simple as that don't even mess with car dealership they look for people like you and use you,don't let them get away with it..this is the reason I refuse to ever buy a car from a dealer again..there all screw balls...You got some valid answers from the info you provided, how about you providing some more details, state - dealers name - location - canada or US...I find your question interesting and like to find out how this dealer gets away under the laws operating like this

Sounds fishy... but when you hand someone a *signed* title of ownership, you are in effect giving them your car. Happy that you did not sign, but this is still not safe... aside from them not giving you the funds for the trade, they can still work w/DMV to transfer ownership etc... maybe through a lien.Is craigslist a good site too look for cars im seeing some incredible offers but are they too good?
Please be direct with them, you want your money... the dealership owes you, and who's to say what the story is going to be in 25 days?
