What are the "real" requirements to purchase a used car from a dealership?

I have bought cars with cash my whole life. Now it's time to get a real car. I can't afford a 12000 car. What would be the requirements for me to get a 7000 car?

I have a working trans. and engine for 97' Honda Accord. Anyone selling a body for it? ashwms@yahoo.com?

I have bad credit
I only want to put down like 7 or 8 hundred.
I dont make a lot on paper because I'm a tipped employee.
What should I do?

Look at some independant dealers. They grnerally have some more flexible lenders. One thing you really want is to find a company that will do buy here pay here and after a few months sell your loan to a lender. When the lender buys your loan they will beging reporting it to the credit agency's. When you go be prepared for a high intrest rate and perhaps to pay a little more for the car. With bad credit and little money down you are a HIGH RISK..

List of 8 - 12 references - Name - Address - Phone Number (ways to track you down)
Pay Stub's (last 2-3)
Tip Information
If you have been at you job less than 2 years bring previous employment information
If you have been at yu residence less than 2 years bring previous address information.

They may require more down. If so ask about a Pick-up Payment. That's where you give the dealer an agree upon amount of money over a agree upon period of time to compinsate for the lack of down payment. The full down payment will show on your contract. (Pick-up payment's are illegal in some area's)

It's going to be hard for you since you have bad credit. You should probably buy a car with cash again and pay some bills off to raise your credit score.
Also, since you are tipped, it's kinda difficult to determine how much you actually bring home each month.

It will be tough. Do you report your tips? If you don't, now you see the downside. The bank usually wants tax returns for proof of income. The other post is right, you will probabally need to go the buy here pay here route or get a strong co-signer to buy it with you .
