Should I buy this Mustang?

Question:
There is this 1996 Ford Mustang that a person is selling in my neighborhood. It is green, clean exterior and interior. The car has 108,500 miles on it but there is a new engine on it which only has 10,000 miles on it. It is claimed to run great. The asking price is $3,500 and it sounds reasonable. The thing is I don't know if i should sell my car (2000 Hyundai Sonata 96,000 miles) and buy this Mustang. (that is the only way i could afford it) Any Suggestions?

You say that it is claimed to run great. You haven't test drove it? You need to before deciding anything.
If it has had a new engine, other things are not far behind, such as a transmission or even just minor things which can be a pain.

Get a full inspection from your mechanic, make sure he does a full inspection, not a quick look over. It is worth paying even 100 dollars for a good inspection. Especially if you are selling your other vehicle, you want to make sure this one is ok.

Ford F-150 FX4 or Toyota Tundra?

Also, you say that is the only way you can afford it, so you don't want any repairs comming up soon since you don't have the money. Get the inspection before deciding anything, find out what problems, repairs, or maintenance you can expect soon, which doesn't mean it isn't a good deal, just that you should know about that stuff before buying it and not having any money to fix anything.

I was in the car when my dad died. should i still want to drive or what?

The price doesn't sound bad, but again there may be other problems that will show up soon. I would wonder why they recently (10,000 miles ago, or less than a year I would guess) replaced the engine, which would be quite expensive, but are now selling it. Most people would not spend that amount of money for a new engine to sell it so soon afterwards, especially if they aren't going to get that money out of it when selling it.

Salvaged Chevy Cavalier 2002 - good or bad idea?

Another question would be is it a new engine? A rebuilt engine? Was it an engine from the junk yard? A new engine is very expensive, so probably it was rebuilt, remanufactured, or is a junk yard engine. If it was rebuilt, who did it? Is there any warranty on it? Did they replace anything else, or just throw in a new engine? Why did they have to replace the engine? I'm sorry but I would really question the new engine thing...the car just isn't that old, with that many miles. I mean, it happens but still, get the story.

Opinions on new/ used cars?

Even if the engine is "new" (which is doubtful), there are still many other points about any used car to consider. You should have it looked over very carefully. Some problems which may appear to be minor, can be very expensive to repair.

What are some of the things to look for when buying a used car?

If it is a Mustang GT (with a V-8), you will have to think about gas, and MUCH higher insurance than you are paying now - especially if you are under 25. Plus, those get a lot of abuse, and tend to tear through U-joints, and clutches.

I need help! I am about to buy a salvage nissan sentra 2005, for 5,900;36k how much is this car worth?

That sounds like an amazing deal so its eleven year old and counting the old engines miles, they only drove 16000 miles a year? and it has a brand new engine? man that is a great deal. I have a 1995 land rover discovery w/ 123000 miles and it cost 3500 dollars and it is amazing so ya i would definitely buy if that is something you REALLY want. Just remember that it is a used vehicle and it is gonna to need a little "tweeking" to make it what you want it. Also before you buy go on to eBay and look for mustangs cuz sometimes they are better and cheaper on eBay. that's were i got my land rover...on eBay. I when i got it for my bday i was like yes! cuz that's the only kind of car that i wanted anyways enough about my life...just check out all that stuff for making a final decision. Hope this helps!!
