I'm either looking at buying a 97-01 model Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra or a Ford F-150 with less than 110k miles. I'd like to know which one is the best and I'd like some tips on a good model year and engine/transmission? How many miles can I get out of a particular Truck until it fails?
How can I get a better interest rate than 14%-18% with a 595 credit score?
All I know is the GM Vortec is good!
What car do you reccomend for starters?
Also, I'd like to know if the 4X4 trucks are durable and will keep me out of the mechanics garage, or should I just buy a 2-wheel drive and weight down the back during the winter?
I'm the type of person who buys older used cars that are in good shape and drive them till the wheels fall off of them. Four years ago I bought a 1990 Toyota with 117k miles for cheap, and now I have 220k miles on that Toyota. I'm hoping for the same luck with my new truck!

i own a repair shop and your right about the vortec engine ,they are good,i own one of them i would suggest you go with a gm product because they last really good as far as getting a good 4 wheel drive one,ask your self do you need it or not,i bought mine with 4 wheel drive just in case i did need it,and i have used it a lot,but i would recommend a good gm product i think ford builds a good truck,but i always would choose a good gm product over a ford any day,good luck i hope this helps.i would say the f150 would be the better buy

I'm biased in favor of Toyota, at least the older ones, and look down south, avoid trucks used to push a plow or with a heavy duty tow hitch because odds are they've been abused. Same if the box is pounded to hell, can't expect the rest of the truck had life any easier. Consumers Reports also may be helpful. I find the Fords are a more luxurious, better aesthetic design, but the GMC (IF ABS is working right) is better than Ford. I really think the last good Dodge was the civilian Power Wagon version of the WW2 weapons carrier, personal opinion. I've seen a lot of old Dodges sittiung around, but that seems to be what they do best.I love my Chevy Silverado; Cadillac of Trucks..I bought it used (3 yrs. old) and 79,000 miles and 6 yrs. later, I have 129,000 miles. It rides soooooo great! I loooove pick ups! I've had normal maintenance. Whenever I get another vehicle, it will be a Silverado. I wish mine had 4x4; weighting it down is such a hassle. It is a '97 (as in my user name). It has been very dependable for me.

Either will probably do you well. Both the Chevy/GMC and Ford had similar quality. Although I prefer the lines and powertrain of the GMCs...Is there any medical leniency when involved with auto repossession?
I just bought a '98 GMC 1500 Extended Cab with 99,000 miles on it. The harsh north east winters have definately taken their toll, but it is still a great truck. I ran my '97 Yukon to 195,000 and am expecting as much from this one.

well you already know how long a toyota will last...why not go with another one? they probably are a little pricier, but those tundras from around the 2000 model year are nice trucks...i mean any chevy or ford with 110k miles on it i'd be weary about. make sure it has been well-maintained either way
personally, going over 110k miles, between ford and chevy, i'd choose chevy.
Just like the above answer, you know the quality of a Toyota yet you are looking for something else, stick with a proven performer and look for another Toyota, a friend of mine went from a Toyota to a brand new Chev, he got suckered in with the 0% financing, it took less than six months of nothing but trouble for him to dump the truck at a loss and go back to another Toyota.

i sold chevy and ford and i would go with the gm.gm makes chevy but its a little better than chevy.4x4's are just as durable as 2 wheel drive but you can't just rag it out because it's a 4x4.your experience with toyota shows you that it might be better to stick with foreign model.More Questions & Answers ...
