Thinking of buying a used Ford Focus hatchback. Good choice?

I'm thinking of getting a used 2000-2005 Ford Focus ZX-3 hatchback. What are details on it? Good gas mileage? Does it have good reliabilty? Any problems?

Financially, is it better to buy a new or a slightly used car?

Don't buy 2000-2002. Not very reliable compared to the newer ones. Newer ones are fantastic. Even better than the Honda Civic, and Toyota Corolla. Focus is great.

Since its used, try to obtain maintenance records. Check to see if the previous owner has had regular maintenance completed.
