Question:
so a lady gave me a down payment towards the purchase of my car. i wrote a promissory note stating i would hold the car for them. they had the keys opening and looking at everything. starting it up and such. but they did not drive it around. today she comes in and gives me the rest of the money. i write a note saying i received it for purchase of the car as is etc. we go to the bank, sign the title and get it notarized. come back. she starts up the car to leave and decides she doesn't want it anymore. she hands all the paperwork and keys back to me saying it's not finalized and now we have to go to the bmv. she says she'll put it into her name, and then 'sell' it back to me and put it in my name. (this is fishy to me) i wrote a note saying i'd refunded half of money to her, the other half would be refunded after the title and paperwork was completed. how can i fix this without paying taxes twice? can i just print a replacement title and shred the other? or am i just screwed? thanks!

The sale was FINAL once you signed over the title. You should have told her it was her car and left. Now she got the car and half her money back. You just got CON'D!

Whatever she told you the car is sold the minute the action was notarized. Put her name on the title and tell her no refunds!
