The Jetta might be more expensive, but the car is so solid. It is worth the price, especially if you are looking at used cars.well the volkswagen is a little pricier but i think performance wise it performs better than corolla but it is less reliable,while toyota gets good gas mileage and it is very reliable,its really a choice between performance vs reliabilty

As far as HP both cars are similar, but the Corolla has a terrible power band, making it's HP ratings meaningless. The Jetta is over 2 seconds faster to 60 MPH.

Also another car you may want to look at is the Cobalt / G5. Its cheaper than the Jetta, has very similar performance, and gets better fuel economy. Also the more powerful 2.4L is an inexpensive option if you want the extra power. The only thing is IMO it doesn't look as good as the Jetta inside and out.

it all depends on ur budget, i dont really like jettas but they are quicker and more pricey then a corolla, the fastest corolla is a xrs model which they dont make anymore so ur left with a corolla type S which is pretty slow but way more reliable then a jetta, you want a nice little quick car with great gas mileage? i suggest a honda civic si, i have an 06 and i love itwell i own a toyota corolla and it has a lot of get up and go power maybe not as much as jetta but its cheaper and more reliable and gets better gas mileage. so which would you rather have 3 good things about a car or just 1
