The 2000 Escort will be the best for mileage, the Tarurus V6s will be the worst. But be aware that none of the cars you list are really reliable mechanically. The taurus is a good car, but it will never get 30mpg, not even with a tail wind. You will be lucky to get mid 20's in that car.

The Ford Escort may be the best option for the money as a 1997 Hyundai is a little shakey. They are much better now, but that's a 10 year old Hyundai. It will probably be falling apart.

Well Don't buy a ford...seriously you will regret it. FORD stands for: fix or repair daily and found on road dead. If you want fuel economy and reliability in a cheap car, look around for a toyota tercel or corolla. Also consider a nissan sentra, mazda protege, honda civic or accord. Or you could do what I did and buy a moped(100 miles per gallon)...but you probably don't want to do that...Can anyone please help me with a free carfax report?
