Question:
Im thinking of buying a new van. Can any one recomend the best van to buy these days.
Answers:
I have £10,000 to spend. what estate car do you recommend?
The Toyota is the best of the bunch. The new ones got the 3.5 V6, and they can actually get out of their own way. They will also get the best gas mileage. The only downside is they can get expensive once you start optioning it out. Overall they are very reliable, hold their values and Consumer Reports considers it the best van.The Hyundai is a good van for the money. The gap has been closed, but they still are not quite as good as Toyota or Honda. At least a good warranty is offered. Reliability has not been great, and neither has resale. If you are the type that gets a new vehicle every few years, then reliability is not overly important, but resale is.
I would not do the VW. There are very few of them on the road, and parts will be very scarce and costly. VW's also have done very poorly in reliability surveys. Any repairs will take a long time, and special parts and tools are needed to work on them.
Is it just me, or is the 2008 Mercury Sable one attractive car?
The Ford products are junk. Old motors and designs, and the imminent threat of being discontinued keep most anyone but fleet buyers away. They routinely finish dead last in every comparison, and most car magazines do not bother testing them anymore. The interiors have acres of lego hard plastic, and the engine sounds like it should be in a school bus. Customer satisfaction, reliability and resale rank near the bottom. The only good thing is that they are heavily discounted and rebated (same with the GM vans).
You have left out the Honda Odyssey. It is a very close second to the Toyota.
