If you just get the FWD model, you may be able to get to around $25500. As the AWD model lacks a low gear, this is not a true off road vehicle. Most of the weight is over the front wheels anyway. Short of your living in an area that gets a lot of bad weather, you can do without AWD. Even if you had AWD, my guess is you would be reluctant to take your new SUV out in the really bad stuff.

So an AWD ain't gonna happen. FWD will get you close. Used ones also hold their values pretty well, and tend to be well equipped models. The overall design has not really been changed at all, so an 04/05 certified used one will definitely fall in your price range.
