I live in new jersey and would like to buy a new car in new york from a dealership. Do I have to pay both new york and new jersey sales taxes? Will the dealer register and to the title transfer for me in new jersey? what is the different between buying in new york and buying in new jersey? Any special thing that I should be aware of?

You will have to pay the taxes that are imposed by the county or state in which you register the vehicle. The NY dealer will probably give you a Temp Tag (30 days) and send you to the NJ DMV to get the paperwork done. There is a chance that they will take care of everything, but in my case (NY dealer) we would Temp Tag you.
