How can you tell when a sub is about to blow?
What you need is a LOC, or line out converter. It will take the high voltage signals that drive your speaker and turns that into a low level signal that an amp can use. Some of the cheaper ones induce a bit of noise into the system, but even good ones aren't that expensive. My personal favorite http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_produ... the N-777 would work great for a sub amp. The N-7v is similar except it adds a gain adjustment knob.
Does anyone have a radio wiring diagram for a 1998 Dodge Neon?

I NEED a mono amp. and advice?
You can either tap into the speakers, which if you're installing in the trunk and have rear deck speakers it is easiest to grab the wires back there, or get them behind the deck after finding the wire colors for your car. You can take a peek at http://www.the12volt.com/ and in the middle of the first page there are vehicle wiring diagrams although you'll have to register first, registration is free.
What does a bass cap do? Do I need one?
I would suggest running the factory speaker wires through an RCA converter. This will convert your factory speaker wires into RCA cables. Then you can run the RCA outputs to either an amp (if your going back into your factory speakers for just plain loudness)or to a crossover (where you can split the frequencies for use with separate subwoofers and highs) then from the crossover to the amps then to the subs and highs. But an RCA converter is where I would start.Go to wal mart and get a high to low level converter, they are not that much, check if your amp has high level inputs already on it...
