Question:
I am getting 2 alpine type R, 1500W, 4 ohm, 12 inch subwoofers and i am wondering how many watts i should get in an amp. also do i need a mono channel or 2 channel amp? would 1000w amp be enough for these subs? thanks in advance!

Can anyone recommend a place that can "hop up" an old Sears Roadtalker CB Radio?
Ya those are 1500 watts max, which means absolutely nothing to you. look at the rms watts which is 500 for those. I would suggest getting a two channel amp that can put out about 400 watts rms per channel. That will push those nicely. Hope this helpsHow much amp wattage do I need?
I would personally get a mono amplifier because you can wire those down to 1 ohm. 1000 *should* be plenty depending on your application. How much do you want to spend and what are the specifications of the box you are putting them in?
This would depend on whether or not you mean DVC (4ohm per coil subs) or DVC (2ohms/coil wired to a four ohm load). I'm gonna guess you have the DVC 4ohm/coil model. With that you options for wiring would leave you with a 1ohm or 4ohm load for an amp (depending on if you parallel the subs to the amp, or series the each sub then parallel them to the amp). Amp choices: mono amp putting out roughly 1000rms @ 1ohm or 2-channel amp putting out roughly 1000rms x1 @ 40hms (bridged mode). Now just in case you have the DVC 2ohm/coil model, your wiring options would be a 2ohm or 0.5ohm load. With these you best be is a mono amp with roughly 1000rms @ 2ohms (series each sub, then parallel to the amp). Now as far as amp companies the list can go on and on, but I will list a few of my favorites. JL Audio, MTX, Eclipse, Kicker, Memphis, Soundstream, Crossfire, Precision Power, Alpine, etc.
Anyone know the difference between hex cable and gauge cable?
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions regarding your subs (wiring, enclosures, etc.) or amps feel free to email me.

k well first of all that is the 1500 watts rms or peak? im assuming peak. so the rms is prob around 1000. a 2 channel is better however its nearly impossible to get ahold of an 2 channel amp with that power. so u need a mono. but make sure the money has enough for 2 subs. *example* 2 1000 watt subs= 2000 watts. so u want a mono amp that atleast 2000 watts. also, u want to run the speakers with an amp thats atleast teh rms, or a little more. so if ur subs are 1000 rms and 1500 peak, run them at about 1200 watts a piece. so u would need a 2400 watt amp.
