How do you install a CB Radio into your car or are they only designed for rigs? (I have a Cobra.)?

Question:
I used to drive a rig for 3 months so I should know this already but - I would like to install a CB radio into my car. I work as a courier and it helps to have a CB to know traffic situations that the news doesn't report. In any case, I bought a cobra and I have no idea how to install it. I thought it would be something you plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet but on the back, all I have are a red and black raw cables. Can anyone help?

Answers:

I want to add another battery in my car... I know this can be done.... any help would be awesome... thanks?

Red cable is positive, black cable is ground. You can but cigarette plug from Radio shack and attach the wires to that so it is more convenient than hard wiring it.

Who makes the loudest and hardest hitting subs?

Next it the antenna, you may just want to get a magnetic one that sticks to the car roof. After that all you need to do is match the antenna and the radio with an SWF meter that is also available at Radio Shack.

Can I connect my MP3 player directly to my deh-p6800mp car stero?

red wire goes to a positive wire or in fuse box black wire is the ground wire hook it to something metal on the dashboard or you can buy a adapter to plug in to cigarette lighter

What is the best gain and bass boost setting for my system?

The positive and negative cables on the back allow a much better way of supplying power than a cigarette adaptor. Just run the red wire from your fuse block (choose a higher amp, 20+ circuit, NOT THE RADIO), then ground the black as close to your instalation point as possible, but take care not to ground it too close to the radio. I keep saying radio because if you get too close you will have nasty buzzing interferance in your speakers.

help installing pioneer stereo to 04 silverado?

go to pep boys ,buy a cigarette plug ,connect the red wire to the plug hot side connect the black to the ground side just plug it in to your cigarette lighter also buy a cb antena that clip on your window BREAKER BREAKER YOUR ALL SET

what amp should i get?

you must have already purchased one so now if you haven't got an antenna, get that also. hard mount the radio for easy access and control do what the manufacturer says to for power ---then---here comes the important part, take the car with the radio installed and if the antenna is hard mounted have it in place, to a CB dealership and have them set the VISWR. this has something to do with the length of the antenna and cable you have on the radio and if this VISWR is not set correctly one of two things an happen, either you can not transmit as far, or each time you do there is an amount of surge back into the radio and that can damage it. so put the system in the car and before trying it take it to somebody that can adjust it before you try it out----then enjoy
