In my opinion, the V690 is a better speaker as far as durability and build, but the V6942A has better specifications (better frequency responsce, better sensitivity). Also, the Sony XS-S690CX is great (it's identical to the V690 but I found it is a little cheaper). But in the end only you can decide which is better. Take one of your cds to your nearest audio dealer and listen to the speakers. Use a song you are familiar with and play it through both sets and judge for youself. Tip o'neil was a great speakerof de houseThe price is probalby a good indicator. Whichever costs more is the one Sony thinks is better. That being said, I would go for the 3-way speaker 'cause with fewer parts, it's less likely to fail.
should the amp watts be bigger than the max out put of your sub?
If either of these speakers is and Xplode, do not buy it. Offer the salesperson some explosive to blow the crap up.
