Is anyone familiar with hooking up a radio in a 1997 lincoln town car?

I have a harness kit that has the rectangle plug and a square plug, but the square plug doesn't fit so none of my dash lights come on. Please help.

Of the two plugs, only the rectangular plug is required for an after-market radio. The square plug doesn't have to plug into anything. If you dash lights don't come on, check the fuse for your instrument panel illumination.
