Question:
1. what brand amp
Buiding a speaker box for my car...?
2. what size amp (power)
Answers:
bs180 gave you some bs. Underpowering a speaker WILL NOT blow it. Sending clipped (distorted) signals to speakers WILL. Meaning, pushing a 400wrms amp to these subs is fine, as long as the gains on the amp are set correctly (they're NOT volume knobs!). Now, if you crank the amp up to the point of clipping, the subs will get hot due to it, and THIS is what blows a speaker, not because it's underpowered.
Now, I would find an amp with about 500wrms to each of the subs, totalling in at 1000wrms, or 2000watts 'peak'.
This will require some monies. For bang-for-the-buck, Hifonics. For SQ-for-the-buck, Eclipse.
Anything with 1000 cea-compliant watts rms.
Expect to fork out about $300 for one, on sale.
Don't buy cheap (about anything anyone on this site recommends), they lie about power. You get what you pay for.
Dose any one have the hd radio and if so do u like it?
i would recommend for FULL power a 800watt amp...not a 800 maximum power but a 800 watt RMS amp...this amp combined with those speakers should rattle your brains fairly well lol.if u went with a smaller amp u would get good bass just not the optimum and if u went very small it could blow the speakers.BUT if u went to big it could also blow the speakers...800 RMS watts amp should b just perfect...now as far as brand Im sure a Audiobahn or JL Audio amp would compliment these speakers nicely...of course that size amp will not b cheap, but it will put out tremendous power..much luck my friendThe driver did not seem to know he had a tailgater. what should he have been doing diifferently?
check these out... http://www.cardomain.com/item/infref611a... i would get one per sub itll give you enough RMS power to keep you goin and some extra kick when you wanna turn it up and blast out the ricer next to you at the stoplightMore Questions & Answers ...
