For better sound quality always use a 4 ohm load vs. 2 ohm. The reason is because the amp will run hotter, sound worse and have a shorter life running at 2 ohms. You get more power at 2 ohms but with the problems listed above.Anything to be gained by mixing brands of speakers?
If you want a certain power rating, get an amp that pushes the watts RMS desired at 4 ohm.

Amps aren't only either 4 or 2Ohm stable. A mono amp can be 4, 2, 1, and 1/2Ohm stable. Most are only 2Ohm (minimal) stable.Ohms is resistance. 2Ohms is half the resistance of 4Ohms, etc...
An amp that puts out 500watts RMS @4Ohms will put out about 1000watts RMS @2Ohm (half the resistance, twice the power).
What makes amps perform at different Ohms (impedances) is the speakers. A 4Ohm speaker will load the afformentioned amp @4Ohms (which will put out 500watts RMS). A 2Ohm speaker will load the same amp @2Ohms (which will put out 1000watts RMS).
