I need to learn the basics about car audio.?

Question:
A few months ago my 3-year-old Pioneer stereo was stolen. A week and a half ago I finally brought myself to replace it...and then this morning I blew one of my stock speakers. So before I spend any more money, I want to understand what I need to purchase so I don't keep doing this to myself.

I have a 1995 Honda Del Sol. How do I unlock a locked radio without the code?

I admittedly know -nothing- about car audio, so can someone give me the 60-second overview of how to know what size and output to look for in speakers, how these things work together, and whatever else I need to know?

Would my alternater get fuk up with 2 12" d9 and 2 jl 1000/1 n what would i need to run it in a honda accord

Notes: I'm in a '99 Ford Contour and the new CD player is a Sony Xplod. I plan on sinking the least $$ necessary into this car, and I'm not looking to get earsplitting volume out of it--just want to be able to listen to stuff.

stick to name brands- if you bought pioneer head unit- then get pioneer door and rear speakers.. dont cheap out and get american bull-chit like i once did.. stay away from pyraimid plye legacy and fakes..

the easiest thing to do is go to a best buy and ask them to install it. They know the speaker size, and the install is very reasonable. IF you want to do it yourself, check out crutchfield.com Your car will be on there list, and it will show you everything you need to fix it. Although, it is hard to take the door panels off you car, so maybe you should have a pro do it, good luck

Installing speakers is pretty straight forward. Check this site below, as well as sounddomain.com . You will have to figure out what speaker sizes work originally in a Ford Countour. It is either a 5 1/4 inch or a 6. 1/2 inch (and maybe 6x9 inch in the back seat)
