Peripheral connex2car charging system...?

Question:
So I just bought a ipod hook up for my pioneer deck its the PERIPHERAL CONNEX2CAR wire that plugs into the CD changer plug and has a wire for a 12v constant and a ground for charging the ipod while its connected... I have heard that aftermarket things have a tendancy to short out ipods, so my question is if anyone has this, if the charging feature works as it should...
