It really doesn't matter. You can measure the frame or from the edge of the actual speaker. Not all speakers will measure out the same. Whatever you measure should come close to one of the general speaker sizes: 3in, 4in, 5.25in, 6.5in all round speakers and then you have you 4x6, 5x7/6x8 (same speaker), 6x9 all oval speakers. What is the year, make, and model of your car and I can tell you what size they are without you having to measure them. And my recommendation, don't buy car audio off of ebay. You never know what you're gonna get. If you want to shop online stick with cardomain.com, crutchfield.com, or a retailer like Circuit City or Best Buy. Hope this helps.

Will this combonation of speakers, amp and power supply work. Do I need to do something different?

what sub do you recommend?

there are only a few sizes of speakers. if it is round, measure across the middle, just from one side of the actual cone to the other. if it is oval, do the same , but Horizontally and Vertically...HxV is the size. pretty simple
