Question:
I have a simple JVC deck in my Miata with the detachable face. Last week, it simply went DEAD. Won't play radio or CD or anything. I thought it was a blown fuse that could be the problem, but when I push the "DISPLAY" button, it comes on for a few seconds and shows the time ... but nothing else, then is dead again. Could I have blown out / melted something inside of the deck so that I have to buy a new one? I need to know whether to buy a new one or try to fix this one.

Any tips or help in repairing car audio amplifiers?
i would replace it. still check fuses though first, because jvc has that weird 2 positive powered setup. it might be getting that power from the battery wire, and totally jumping the ignition controlled wire.check fuses, and if they are good, chunk it. not even worth having fixed, cause you can buy a new one just as cheap.
sounds like something is overloading internally. Yes, you will probably end up needing to get it replaced, or if you're an electronics guru, you can open it up and fix it yourself. sometimes its as easy as a loose connection and "ghetto-ing" it to work (my house amp has a loose power FET, since I didnt have any money and didnt want to risk solder it, I simply used a plastic cigarette case to hold the heatsink back, causing the FET to connect, and providing me with a working amplifier :P)
Who makes the best remote car starter?
Since your CD player is much more complex, I'd say either take it in for repair or replace it with a newer, better one. You could always use this as an excuse to upgrade :)
