i have just bought a cheap sub system. it is a bazooka sub system at circuitcity. its model number is elp10190. i installed then and they dont' quite dont give me the bass i want. there is a gain and x over adjustments. how can in adjust these to give the maxium output of of my subs system? this is prob an easy question i am new to the whole car audio thing but am good with home theatre. thanks

for what you have what you can do is#1 turn on the sub by itself,
#2 turn it quite loud,
#3 adjust xover to get the clearest sound (bass)
#4 turn on front speakers and adjust gain on sub so u dont drown out the front speakers

bazooka doesnt make that great of car audio equipment so you probably wont get the bass that you are wantingWith any subwoofer system, it is only as good as its weakest link. If you are not getting the bass you wanted, then I would suggest exchanging it for something better. Being that I worked for a big box retailer like the one you bought that system from, I can tell you that those pre-packaged sub system are not for great bass. The only way you can do that is by matching a good pair of woofers with an appropriate amplifier. Don't forget that the sub woofer enclosure can make or break the system.
Is there really a difference with Speaker Wire?
Here are a few guidelines I used to recommend to customers:
*Sub size can determine the type of sound you will get. 10 inch subs are usually for music where the bass needs to be punchier, like rock or techno. 12 inch are for more long, drawn out bass, like hip-hop or R&B.
*Make sure the enclosure you get is properly sealed. The enclosure type can also get you a different sound. Small sealed enclosures help with punchier bass. Vented and band-pass get you a louder bass. You can mix and latch the enclosure and subwoofers, depending on your preference.
*When you are shopping amplifiers, look at RMS (rated) power, not peak power. Peak power is what your system can do for a few seconds at a time. RMS will be what the power will always give you. Also, make sure you match the subs with the amp. They should have similar wattage ratings. Lastly, make sure the resistance is the same also. You don't want to get two 4 ohm sub woofers bridged to a 4 ohm bridged amplifier. It will make it go boom!!

Matching the right subs and amps can be tough if you don't know what you're doing. Resistance can be tricky but if you find the right sales person, or do some research, I am sure you can get a great system setup. Good luck.

sorry dude, there is really nothing you can do. your not going to get the sound you want from a bass tube. your best move is to take it back or sell it. if your tight on space go to a private shop and check out a Pioneer Premier shallow mount sub. you wont believe the sound this little guy makes.
