guessing; the battery problem could be the alternator. once the battery has no charge to maintain its current surely it will eventually die out. this could have been a problem for a while but now the battery cannot continue to run the car. ----- as for the dimmer in the radio; i ran mine to the dimmer switch on the head light assembly. not saying for you to do the same but as an alternative you might want to check first. Where can I get speakers for a 1980 Corvette?
Hello... as far as the dimmer wire, you do not need that connection for everything to work. What little function that the wire has is when you turn on your headlights, it will dim the lights on the radio slightly. Sometimes this is more aggrivating than it is "cool" because different cars use different polaritys for their dimmers. some use positive, some use negative, and some use different resistances. Best bet is to just not use it. The only way you can use it is if you have one on the radio harness and the car harness. As far as the battery dying, if the radio is powering off when you turn off the ignition, then it should not be drawing any current. I would check the output of your altenator and make sure you are getting 14 volts running and are holding at 12 when not running. That would determine a bad alt. or a dead cell in the batt. Usually auto parts stores will check these for you for free!! But remember, sometimes the people at some chain stores are just employees and dont know anything about charging systems. Some barely know how to use the machines. Try to use a local alt. shop. Hope this helped!! Good luck!!the dimmer wire does not have 2 b connected so the radio should function properly , as far as ur battery going dead u probably have a short somewhere in the vehicle. good luck!!!
